Meeting - January 2012

Friday, 27 January 2012 - 7:30pm
The River Teme
Brian Draper MBE

A Talk and Slide Show.

Wythall History Society's first meeting of 2012 took place on Friday the 27th January and was pleased to welcome Mr Brian Draper MBE to talk about The River Teme and places of interest close to its course.

Brian, whose working life was spent with the Rivers Authority, is himself an authority on most of the rivers of Britain and has become a regular speaker at our meetings. His informal and humorous style always makes for an interesting and informative evening and this presentation was no exception.

We learned through pictures, historical facts and anecdotes that the Teme rises in the Welsh hills of Powys, close to Newtown at a height of around 1660ft above sea level and meanders for 60 miles through Powys, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire before joining the river Severn approximately 46ft above sea level at Worcester. It was a wonderful journey beautifully illustrated and amusingly narrated.
